First the White one must move the King’s pawn two squares (1.e4).
Then the Black replies by moving his pawn one square (1…c6).
Hey, if you’re thinking about using the Caro-Kann defense in your opening repertoire, it’s worth knowing that you respond to white’s e4 move with c6. Once you get going with the Caro-Kann, there are lots of variations to explore and master, which can be super fun and strategic.
